Hi my 15 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with PCOS. She is a serious athlete, 5'1" and before diagnosis was about 130 lbs. This was not over weight for her as she plays many sports competitively and is muscular by nature. Her very early diagnosis came about due to my work as an aesthetician and noticing her hair patterns, acne and lack of periods similar to clients who were diagnosed with PCOS. She was put on birth control pill to regulate hormones, the Apri 21. While it took 4 months to regulate a period, it did so and cleared her acne. The issue is her substantial weight gain. When I looked into it I found that high progesterone pills used to treat PCOS cause an increase in appetite. This was very evident. She gained 12 lbs in 6 weeks. She has peaked at that 12 lbs however I see her appetitie and it worries me. She goes to prep school a couple hours away and only comes home about every 6 weeks or so. I am unable to ensure only healthy things go in and simply try to encourage her to realize she is in control of what goes in, etc. She seems hungry ALL the time. What are other birth control pills PCOS patients have tried without the appetite increase. Thanks, I am a very concerned mom.
