Vanessa - February 22

Hello, I am proud to say that I am 7 months pregnant and is fond of drinking herbal teas and other herbal drinks.

But is herbal teas during pregnancy safe to drink?

Clara - February 22

That is quite hard to say whether it is safe or not because there is just not a lot of information out there on the safety of herbs during pregnancy.

ginalyn - February 23

due to the lack of studies on most herbs, drinking herbal teas during pregnancy should be done with caution because their effects on a developing fetus are not yet known.

Herbal teas are naturally caffeine free, so caffeine is not an issue when consuming this type of tea.But just reduced your intake.

Many alternative medicine health care providers feel that using certain herbal teas during pregnancy is a great way to support optimal pregnancy health. Herbal teas can often provide an additional source of nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, and iron. And with these i think it is safe to drink herbal teas.

There are a number of teas labeled as “Pregnancy Teas” or herbs such as red raspberry leaf that are in teas, that are considered to be good for pregnancy. Many professionals who work with herbs believe that the regular consumption of these teas may help prevent pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, preterm labor, prolonged labor, and postpartum hemorrhage.

Most commercial brands of herbal teas are thought to be safe for anyone to consume in reasonable amounts. The herbal teas that are considered to be unsafe are those that are not made commercially, those made with excessive amounts of herbs (amounts larger than those found in common foods or drinks), or those made with herbs that are known to be toxic.

it is best to ask herbal specialist with regards to which is safe especially that you are pregnant.but i am sure of this red raspberry leaf because this is rich in iron, this herb has helped tone the uterus, increase milk production, decrease nausea, and ease labor pains.

You better do some inquiries before drinking any herbal teas.

Most of the herbal teas are safe to drink during pregnancy as long as you are not drinking in large quantities.

All I know is the FDA advises pregnant women to avoid taking herbs because they are not certain yet if they are safe.

Pia M. - February 26

Oh really Christine, but my attending midwife recommends me to drink herbal teas then and so far I have not noticed anything bad.

Mariecel - February 26

For me, I love to drink the red raspberry leaf tea cause they say it can help me making my labor and delivery faster.

To ensure safety of the pregnant women who like to drink these herbal teas, I suggest that you read the label first and see the ingredients listed and ask your midwives or doctors if these ingredients are not harmful to you and your baby.

it is to deal with serious diseases. the pregnant woman must understand the importance of overcoming bad health practices, like smoking, improper diet, and inactivity. It is good to shift to a healthier lifestyle- not smoking, proper diet, and exercise.
